Alan Lowen held his Captain’s Day event on the Lakes course in extremely fine weather, and was well rewarded with a record turnout of some 52 seniors. The event was combined with the Monthly Stableford.
Winner of the Captain’s Day trophy and the stableford competition was Bob Blake with 41 points. Second with 39 was Les Vine on countback from Eric Bailey.
The team prize was won by John Billot, Colin Thornton, Tom Lamin and Mick Hall with 125, closely followed by Tony Slipper, Roy Adlard, Len Astil and Dave Inglis on 121.
Nearest the pin was Tony Wilcox, nearest the pin in two (par 4) Roy Adlard and nearest the line David Toule. Winner of the “over 75” Trophy was Les Vine with 39 points and the “Best Value” trophy was won by Roland Shepperson. Highest scorer of the day was guest of honour Andrew Cameron with 42.
l The Marshall’s Monthly Medal was won by Del House with a net 70, followed by Len Astil (73) and Tom Rea (75) in third.

Alan Lowen and David Toule won 6&4, Mike Whitington and Les Vine won 1 up, Colin Musson and Mike North won 6&5, Colin Thornton and Peter Bishop won 8&6, Phil Turrell and John Sabin lost 1 down, Mick Hall and Ian Nisbet won 2&1, Pat Stanford and Gordon Scott won 7&6, Bob Clarke and John Bratt won 3&2.
Gents
The Notts Rose Bowl stableford was played on the par 72 Lakes course, with a maximum 18-handicap allowance.
Winner was Graham Bell with 38 points, one ahead of Glenn Cooper, with Bruce Foster third on countback with 36.
STOKE ROCHFORD
Seniors
Forty-one Stoke Rochford seniors enjoyed captain Mick Rance’s away day at Coxmoor Golf Club.
Winners of the best two from three competition with 92 points were Keith Dugmore, Don Werner and Wilf Stephenson. Runners-up with 85 were Ron Kent, Mike Dickinson and Dave Hamston, and John Helstrip, Roy Rowe and Cliff Mills were third with 83. Nearest the pin on the par three seventh was Gareth Hughes and nearest the pin in two on the par four 15th was David Hamilton.
Stoke seniors’ annual Summer Medal was won with 77 (net 65) by John Wright. Second with 79 (67) was defending champion Eddie Plant on countback from Colin Howett 87 (67) and Duncan Bennett 86 (67).
BELTON PARK
Ladies
First place in the EWGA Medal Silver Division went to Shelley Mc.Clelland with gross 88 (net 71).
Runner-up was Sheila Mason with 91 (72) on countback from Linda Midgley 85 (72).
In Bronze Division, Donna Hayle continued to improve her handicap by obtaining a two shot cut for her round of 97 (68). Second place went to Enid Maltby with 92 (70) and Madge Stenson was third with 95 (72).
l Organised by vice-captain Pam Wiggins, the Ladies’ Charity AM/AM attracted a fantastic field of 192 from around the county, and raised more than £1,240 for lady captain Diane Dixon’s charity, LIVES First Responders. A raffle raised a further £263.
Winners on the day were from Ruddington Grange with 85 points, and a Boston team finished second on 83. Third placed were Joy Stepney (Belton Park), Dawn French, Carolyn Waters and Sylvia Showan from John O’Gaunt Golf Club with 82 points. Fourth place went to Julie Hamer, Shelley McClelland, Jose Short and Carol Taylor from Belton Park with 81 points.
l A tie at the top of the leader board resulted in a win for Jean Tetley with a score of five in Warrender Cup par competition. Narrowly defeated on countback was new member Kathy Hill and third went to Julie Hamer (3).
l The Breda Boyle Trophy saw new member Sue Addis lift the trophy with 40 points. Narrowly missing out on countback was Nicola Christian and in third place was Lucy Morley with 39.
l The Handicap League team played against Sleaford and won 2½-1. The Scratch Division team played Stoke Rochford and lost 2-1. Two friendly away matches, at Scraptoft and Torksey, both resulted in draws.
SUDBROOK MOOR
Winner of the midweek July medal was seven-handicapper Michael Green with a three under CSS score.
Runners-up were Paul Burrell in Category 3 and Andy Harris in Category 4, both two under CSS. Ian Reah and Ben Dyson were both in the prizes.
Jo Pearson won the parallel ladies’ medal and the twos sweep.
l In the July Sunday stableford, John McSpadyen was overall winner with a card of 44 points and Philip Edwards (42) was runner-up.
Steve Squires, Andy Newman, Bruce MacFarlaine, Ian Mason, Pete Burkhill and Andy Harris all bettered or equalled CSS.
Jo Pearson was best lady on 37 points, from Erica Sansom on 33. Lorna Jackson, Graham Ritchie and Michael Green shared the twos pot.
