Senior golfers at a Grantham club have raised money to buy a defibrillator with the help of the British Heart Foundation.

The Belton Park golfers and the charity each paid half of the £1,600 needed to buy the life-saving equipment which is easy to use and does not require a great deal of training.

Seniors captain Peter Brooks said: “The Seniors have gladly raised the money to provide for this this, but hopefully we will never need to use it. If somebody does have a heart attack time is of the essence. If they are on the other side of the course then we can get this equipment out to them and hopefully save someone’s life.”

British Heart Foundation Fundraising and Volunteer Manager Helena Mair and chairman of the local branch of the charity Roger Blakeman were on hand to present the defibrillator to the club last week.

Mrs Mair said there were two more defibrillators in Grantham, one at Grantham College and another in the leisure centre, but the charity would like to see more installed in the town. Any organisations that would like to know more about raising funds for defibrillators should call Mrs Mair on 01522 541451.
