The Lady Captain’s Day saw a wonderful field of 70 players turn out for a fourball betterball competition.
The winning team of Jenny Gardiner and Nicky Christian took first prize with an emphatic 50 points. Second place went to Anne Railton and Sue Addis with 46. Sue Mitchell and Muriel Gaffney were third with 44 points.
Nearest The Pin in Silver Division on the fourth hole went to Julie Hamer and on the 14th it was Yvonne Bashford. Nearest The Pin in Bronze Division went to Nicky Christian on the sixth hole and Olga Ebsworth on the 17th. The Longest Straightest Drive went to Sheila Mason.
The competition was followed by cocktails, a meal and entertainment was provided by a surprise appearance from the singing waiters.
l The American Greensomes competition was won last Tuesday by the team of Pam Wiggins and Ina Wood with 42 points.
Second place went to Joy Stepney and Anna Clark with 41 points and third were Anita Bartys and Cathryn Morris (39).
Gents
This week’s club competitions saw John Thomson triumph in the Centenary Medal with 77-12=65. Runner-up was David Fahey (80-15=65).
Winner of the Middlemans Cup and Driver was Simon Moore (76-11=65), ahead of Simon Whitton with 80-12=68.
The Long Handicap and Peter Lee Cup was won by Simon Tomlinson with 87-19=68. Clive Horn (88-19=69) finished second.
l The men’s first team defeated Blankney away in the Bramley Singles scratch county competition and will now visit Cleethorpes in the semi-final.

STOKE ROCHFORD
Chris Jones played the last 11 holes in one under par, and had a birdie on the 18th, to thank for victory in the June Saturday Stableford.
His total of 40 points was enough to edge home ahead of Ashley McLean (39) and Andrew Watson (38). The prize for lowest gross score was won by Nick Watson with 34 points.
The following day, 68 players lined up in the Coronation Cup which took the format of a bogey competition. Winner was eight handicap Richard Allen who finished four holes better than the course. He narrowly edged out Ben Smith and Rory Croft. Roger Rawson won the prize for lowest gross.
Seniors
Stoke Rochford completed their first winning double of the season, against Newark, which included a spectacular debut for Phil Hewes who, with Mike Graves, were the best winners of the day.
Stoke take a two game lead into the return match in the annual two-leg challenge with Oundle for the “52 Match Plate”.

SUDBROOK MOOR
Best overall gents’ score on Gold Medal Day was by Clive Breedon who shot eight under CSS. Graham Ritchie’s two over CSS was best of Category 1-3 which won him the club’s gold medal.
Ladies’ gold was won by Judith Hutton who was two over and the junior gold went to Joseph Ablewhite who returned a two under. The monthly medals were won by Clive Breedon, Judith Hutton and Joseph Ablewhite.
Eighteen-year-old Joshua Smity had the best gross score of the field and 13-year-old Alex Doig was second best net in the gents’ section with a four under CSS scorecard.
Runner-up in the ladies was Lorna Jackson and junior runner-up was Robert Eldred. The twos sweep was shared by Jeff Ward, Colin Henfrey and Judith Hutton (2).
