The bird spotted by Mr Norsworthy flying above Shaw Road was most probably a Red Kite, if judged size is accurate.
Since the successful reintroduction to the England they are quite common.
I frequently see them, usually quite high in the sky, but occasionally closer to the ground when they are looking for food.
They are very large birds!
At height they can be distinguished from the smaller buzzard by the shape of the tail; the kite has a distinctive forked shaped tail whereas the buzzard is fan shaped.
