Grantham Tennis Club youngsters enjoyed a successful weekend at Nottingham.
Dominic Newcombe and Samuel Chan triumphed in the Gem Vending doubles grade four event. In a very close and well fought victory, the pair won their final 4-6 7-6(2) 12-10.
In the singles, Dominic lost in the final to a good, solid player 6-3 6-2.
The mixed doubles first team played their first match in Division Two of the Nottinghamshire League last Thursday evening. The team of Lianne Tapson, James Drennan, Charlotte Palul, Richard Cragg, Simon Cormer and Sophie Fletcher lost 12-6 to a strong David Lloyd Aspley side.
The men’s doubles fourth team faced Mansfield A at home and lost 12-6 with the team of Barry Priestley, Paul Kennedy, David Todd, John Walker, Mike Roys and Mark Farmer.
The mini Oranges narrowly lost at home to a strong David Lloyd Burton Waters side with a team comprising James Peace, Jake Gibbons, Heidi-Louise Roberts and Aaron Fleckney.
The ladies’ summer first team played Horncastle in the Lincolnshire League. After the fantastic result last week, the team of Liz Frobisher, Wendy Stewart, Charlotte Palul, Janet Ibberson, Mel Bloodworth and Mell Milner enjoyed their second win away from home.
The ladies’ top Nottinghamshire team of Janet Ibberson, Pam Aust, Yvonne Walker, Jo Jones, Sue Edmonds and Wendy Stewart enjoyed a fantastic 10½-7½ sets victory over Nottingham Castle.
The men’s second string did not fare as well, with a close loss to Appleby Frodingham. The team were Murray Shaw, Toby King, Mark Harris, Karel Meuwissen, Rob Isaac and Nigel Birch.
The men’s AEGON team played their penultimate match at Bourne. The team of Richard Cragg, Dom Newcombe, Michael Cragg and Alex Gordon were whitewashed 12-0.
