One of the largest judo clubs in the East Midlands is to launch classes at Grantham’s Meres leisure centre next month.
Vale Judo Club was established 10 years ago and is the only club in the region with a Sport England Gold Clubmark award. It has also won the British Judo Club of the Year award.
Classes at The Meres are scheduled to begin, initially for boys and girls aged 7-10 and 11-16 years, on Monday, June 3, from 6pm to 8pm.
Classes are designed to suit youngsters starting the sport and also focus on helping individuals build confidence, get fit and make friends.
Vale Judo Club senior coach Mike Newton said they were looking forward to setting up the club in town. He said: “Our classes have been exceptionally popular in Oakham and are always full. We also hope to be able to extend our long-running Rutland Schools Judo Programme to students in Grantham.”
The club is also running two age-related half-term holiday courses in Oakham on May 30 to introduce newcomes to the sport.
