Stealing wine worth £8 ended up costing a man £95 at court.
Ruben Da Silva of Norton Street in Grantham admitted stealing two bottles of wine from Asda in Grantham.
Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, told the court Da Silva concealed one of the bottles of wine down his pants before placing the other inside a rucksack.
Da Silva, 34, was arrested leaving the store and told police: “I know it’s stupid. It’s the last time it will happen.”
Da Silva was fined £75 and must pay a £20 surcharge. As the goods were recovered he did not have to pay compensation and no costs were ordered as Da Silva is on benefits.
