A man who kicked a police officer before spitting in his face was ordered to pay compensation of £75 to the victim.
Darryl Cook of Harrowby Lane in Grantham admitted assaulting a police constable in Grantham town centre in the early hours of March 31.
The court was told Cook had left Taboo Gentleman’s Club in Westgate at around 4am and was then seen by a police officer to push a woman to the floor who officers later learned was his wife.
Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said Cook told an officer to “f*** off” before kicking an officer to the knee.
Mr Pietryka said that as officers restrained Cook he spat at the same officer he had kicked, with the spit landing on his cheek and chest.
Limb restraints were used on Cook who again attempted to spit at the officer.
In interview Cook, a supervisor and sales co-ordinator at Environcom, said he had only pushed his wife away “to stop a domestic” and that she only fell to the floor “because of the shoes she was wearing”.
Rory McMillan, defending, said Cook was part of a group of eight who had gone into Taboo but Cook and his wife left after having an argument.
Mr McMillan said: “She thought he had been looking at someone else while they were in Taboo.
They went outside and she was having a go at him.
“His reaction was to try to walk away and get a taxi home.”
Mr McMillan said Cook raised his hand to stop his wife coming towards him “but because of the high stiletto heels she toppled over”.
He added: “She was very clear this was not an assault on her.”
Mr McMillan said Cook, 26, wrote a letter of apology to the officer.
Mr McMillan said: “He feels he has let himself and his young family down.”
Cook was fined £185 and must pay costs of £85 and a £20 surcharge. He must also pay £75 in compensation to the officer who suffered a cut knee.
