A student from Grantham College has earned the title Apprentice of the Year in the annual Lincolnshire and Rutland Skills Awards 2013.

Nominated apprentice Glen Childs went to the ceremony in Lincoln with his family and work-based learning manager Paul Ward, where Glen picked up the award in the ICT, education and training category.

Glen found his own employment for an IT apprenticeship by researching companies on the internet that he had walked past on his way to school. He sent his CV and a covering letter to TMS Support Solutions Ltd who offered him a work trial. Glen impressed the staff at TMS so much so during his work trial that they offered him an apprenticeship. TMS has been continually impressed with Glen’s progress and has moved him into a software development role.

Glen will now be put forward for a national apprenticeship award.
