Colston Bassett Dairy received a visit from HRH The Princess Royal last week as part of its centenary celebrations.

Princess Anne was shown how Colston Bassett Stilton is made and met the people behind the world famous cheese on Thursday.

Dairy manager Billy Kevan said: “It was a fantastic honour and privilege to be able to show our Dairy to HRH The Princess Royal. A Royal visit has marked this, our one hundredth year, as a truly special and memorable year in the history of Colston Bassett Dairy.”

Mr Kevan presented a brief history of the dairy to the Princess Royal and an overview of the business today.

She was then given a tour of the dairy to see the cheesemaking taking place and saw the cheese maturing rooms.

The Princess Royal unveiled a plaque to commemorate her visit which ended with the presentation of a gift of some specially selected cheese - Colston Bassett Stilton and Shropshire Blue.

Mr Kevan said: “To have a member of the Royal family visiting our dairy in the little village of Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire was important, not just to the dairy, but to the whole village. We really appreciate her taking the time to show so much interest in what we do.”
