Harrowby United Football Club has secured sponsorship from one of Grantham’s largest employers.
The town’s electrical recycler Environcom has agreed financial terms with the Arrows that will take them into next season and beyond.
The four-figure deal will see the club’s Dickens Road ground renamed The Environ-com Stadium, and will provide much needed financial assistance to the United Counties League team.
Arrows club chairman Ian Weatherstone said it was “by far” the largest sponsorship deal in the club’s history: “We’re delighted that a com-pany as large as Environcom has chosen to support Harrowby United and we welcome them on board.”
He said the money would go towards the running expenses of the club, away match travel, match day officials and ground improvements – but not on player wages.
Ian said: “Contrary to popular belief, none of the lads get paid. Harrowby United prides itself on the fact that the squad solely consists of local players who reside in Grantham, and who have played in the Grantham Saturday League.
“We play week-in week-out against teams with a substantial wage structure, and have finished higher in the league than most of them.
“It was a great first season’s performance and the lads should be proud for what they have achieved.”
The Arrows finished sixth in the league in their debut season and the future looks bright with plans for a youth set-up already in the pipeline.
Environcom CEO Sean Feeney said his company was proud to support both the community and football: “Harrowby United has a strong vision for the future which we are keen to be part of – both on and off the pitch.”
