Witham Wheelers brothers Adam and Reece Egner enjoyed a good night in the Mansfield Track League last Monday.
Adam was sixth overall and second under-14 in the youth B and youth A girls’ category. Despite being under-geared, he managed third overall and first under-14 in the points race, and he finished fourth overall and second under-14 in the five-mile scratch race.
l Peter Cocker (Team Forme) rode the Andy Morrison Memorial 65km road race, near Cranfield University, on Saturday.
He attacked from the start and was joined by three riders after three laps out on his own. Nine more riders bridged the gap, leaving the main bunch out of contention two minutes down the road.
Peter broke away and caught William Colbourne who had slipped away from the leaders but missed out on the win by two bike lengths in the sprint for the line.
l Wheeler Martin Hedley rode fixed wheel in the Lincoln Wheelers Old Skool 25 on Saturday.
The wind-affected Sleaford-Donington course made for slow times, with Martin finishing second of the eight entrants in 1.12.12 and second on handicap.
Martin was the only Wheeler to compete in the Birdwell Wheelers 25 at Hatfield Woodhouse and managed a respectable 1.02.45 and first his his handicap category.
l Feeling unwell, Peter Cocker was forced to retire from the latest round of the National Junior Road Race series around a Vale of Belvoir circuit. He was up with leaders till the penultimate lap.
l The third round of Witham Wheelers’ 10-mile time trial league saw another good turnout of 49 riders at Gorse Lane.
Quickest on the night was schoolboy Karl Baillie in 23min 13sec, some 20 seconds ahead of Peter Cocker. New member Allister Holmes was first on handicap with young Eleanor Crawford not far behind. Martin Hedley won on veterans’ standard.
