Children and young people with disabilities or sensory impairments are invited to try ‘Making Noise’, a series of music-making workshops at the Guildhall Arts Centre from 12.30pm to 2.30pm every Saturday. Families are also welcome to join in.
Making Noise is a county-wide project led by music facilitators from soundLINCS – the community music organisation for the East Midlands - who have experience in working with children with special needs.
Making Noise workshops use a mix of traditional instruments, vocals and digital music technology to engage and stimulate youngsters with disabilities or sensory impairments. The aim is to have fun and help participants to express their ideas and experiences through music. Whole families are finding that attending the sessions on a regular basis has a cumulative impact, with creative skills developing alongside learning, independence and new friendships.
The mother of one regular participant said: “My daughter has grown more in confidence at every session and we really enjoy seeing her progressing both musically and socially. But the great bonus of Making Noise is the support which we parents and carers are now giving to each other.”
Making Noise places are limited and pre-registration with soundLINCS is essential to ensure that all special needs and access requirements are catered for.
