A restraining order was imposed on a kick boxer who threatened to stab his ex-girlfriend.

Anthony Byrne, 27, admitted sending offensive communications to his former partner.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said Byrne, of Larch Close in Grantham, twice rang his former partner on February 3 before hanging up before speaking.

However, on the third occasion Mr Pietryka told the court Byrne said: “I have stabbed myself twice in the stomach. I’m going to come down and stick two in you, you dirty, little slag.”

Mr Pietryka said the threats continued, with Byrne adding: “I was going to come and do you all last night.”

Mr Pietryka said the victim was “concerned for her safety and that he would carry out the threats”.

In a statement, the victim said she was “worried by the events and he is capable of harming her or a child”.

Mrs Brennan, defending, said Byrne had already taken steps to rectify his behaviour by attending an alcohol recovery course with DART.

Mrs Brennan added that Byrne competes as a kick boxer and recently finished fourth in a national qualifier.

Magistrates revoked the current order Byrne was on and ordered him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and a 12-month supervision order.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £60 surcharge.

A restraining order was also imposed preventing Byrne from contacting the victim or carry out any act reasonably likely to do harm to the victim.
