The father of Grantham man Mark Corley, who was murdered 13 years ago, is setting up a bereavement support group.

Tony Corley has set up Understand, a group to help parents of those murdered or “killed in tragic circumstances”. The first meeting of the group was on Friday in Hinckley, Leicestershire, but Mr Corley said he would happily meet up with people on a one-to-one basis if they preferred or could not travel on a monthly basis to Leicestershire.

Mark’s body was found on farmland near Darlington in 2000, five months after he went missing. The 23-year-old had been shot. The case against five men charged with his murder was dropped when it was found police had illegally recorded evidence by installing hidden bugging devices at police stations in Grantham and Sleaford.

In 2002, Nottingham Crown Court heard that Mark had been “executed by a brutal shooting”.

Mr Corley said he had joined support groups in the past but they had not helped him come to terms with the death of his son.

He said: “There is no support out there for people like me. I was with an organisation but they let me down. To relate to other people in similar circumstances does help me.”

Mr Corley said he still hoped his son’s killers would face justice.
