Dog dirt thrown all over Grantham kids’ play area

A children’s play area has become a danger to health because teenagers are throwing bags of dog dirt around, says a dog owner.

Jon Pope, of Tennyson Avenue, Grantham, says dog walkers like himself no longer want to go near the area on the Harrowby Lane playing fields because of the mess, and parents will not let their children play there.

Mr Pope, a father of two young children, said: “I go down to that playground with my 19-month-old and two dogs, but the kids are now using it as a drinking point in the evenings and they are taking the dog excrement out of the bin there and throwing it at each other.

“They are making it unusable for dog walkers and children.”

Mr Pope has informed the police and the council. Yesterday he returned to the play area to find the bin still full of bags of dog excrement.

He collected a number of bags of dog waste and litter from the park.

He said: “I would have expected after 24 hours for the bin to have been emptied. It is overflowing with dog poo. It would only take a council employee two minutes to empty.”

A spokesman for South Kesteven District Council said: “We are aware of the situation and the bin will be cleared later today. It is a standard litter bin and we are looking into the provision of new bins in the area that should prevent issues like this occurring.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said if anybody witnessed any of this behaviour in the park they should call 101 and ask to speak to PCSO Fulker.
