Grantham Swimming Club competed in the final round of the Mini Meet Grand Prix at Peterborough.
The fourth and final round produced some excellent swims, starting with Lara Hawkes winning her age group in 200m freestyle. Lara set a new club record, not only in 200m freestyle, but also at 100m with her split time.
Abbie Farkas followed with a five-second personal best and finished in third place. Eleanor Lythgoe, Abbie Philips and Kerry Sanders all swam well in this event greatly improving their times.
The boys swam the 200m individual medley with William Hawkes and Harry Fowler finishing first and third respectively in the 11 years age group. David Evans was fourth and Matthew Smith 10th with a great personal best.
Grantham’s fastest sprint swim of the day came from Cameron Chow who finished third in the 12 years 50m freestyle in a time of 31 seconds. Matthew Smith also swam well, improving by more than a second, as did Harry Fowler, Tom Griffin, Benjamin Ribgy, Nathan Wilkins and his twin brother Kendall.
In the girls’ 50m butterfly, Keira Tyers, Eleanor Lythgoe, and Amelia Peters all improved their personal bests.
Grantham dominated the field in the 11 years boys’ 50m breaststroke. William Hawkes easily came first with a new club record – 41.12 seconds – with Harry Fowler not far behind in second place and a new personal best.
At the end of the mee,t the following Grantham swimmers were awarded for being in the top six after four rounds: 9 years girls – Lara Hawkes second; 10 years girls – Abigail Farkas sixth; 10 years boys – David Evans third, Matthew Smith sixth; 11 years boys – Harry Fowler fourth, William Hawkes fifth; 12 years boys – Cameron Chow fourth, Kendall Wilkins fifth.
