New Newark League
Under-9 Division Two Cup Final
Caythorpe & Fulbeck 1
Newark RHP Colts 1
(Caythorpe & Fulbeck won 4-3 on penalties)
Caythorpe and Fulbeck beat both the form book and previously undefeated Newark RHP Colts to win the cup last Tuesday.
The team had already played RHP twice in the league last month, losing both times, and so went into the cup final very much as underdogs in front of a good-natured crowd of a couple of hundred.
Caythorpe and Fulbeck took the game to RHP from the outset, upsetting their confidence and scoring through
Joe Dickinson after 15 minutes.
To add to the tension, RHP equalised from a free kick on the edge of the box with only 30 seconds to go in the second half, and so the match went to a penalty shoot-out.
Goalkeeper Joseph Whaley pulled off two brilliant saves to help Caythorpe and Fulbeck win 4-3 and lift the cup.
