A fitness expert from Grantham hopes to win the title Europe’s strongest man by competing in a gruelling challenge which will see him face some pretty tough tests.
Ross Edgley, 27, has been hand-picked to join 11-man ‘Team GB’ in taking on the 11- mile Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run at the Nurburgring tomorrow (Saturday).
In the ultimate test of strength, stamina and determination, Ross will compete against 10,000 fellow runners to face an array of difficult obstacles, including plunging into a pool of ice cold water, suffering electric shocks and braving swamps of quicksand.
He said: “I’ve been training hard since the start of the year to take on this challenge but fear it will be one of the toughest races I‘ve ever attempted. I’m just hoping that I get round in one piece and finish in a good position to make Team GB proud.”
This is not the first such challenge for Ross - he took part in BBC3’s Tough Guy or Chicken Challenge last year and he is also an international athlete, swimmer and polo player for Britain.
His fitnessexpertise has been passed on to the likes of Gillian McKeith and Joe Swash, both of whom undertook the challenge of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Heading up Team GB and competing for the seventh year in a row is Chris Gibson. He said: “This year, the course is going to be the toughest yet. This is not just about physical fitness; it’s about competitors who have real strength of mind and character.
“We’re delighted to have Ross representing Team GB. He has all the experience and qualities to be a real contender for the strongman title.”
