A terrific fund-raising event will be held in Grantham next weekend aimed at raising thousands of pounds towards the repair of the St Wulfram’s spire.

The Spire Cycle is being organised by Grantham businessman Simon Hopkins of Simon Hopkins Electrical Services and is being backed by Grantham MP Nick Boles.

Mr Boles said: “I am looking forward to stretching my legs and testing my stamina in support of St Wulfram’s wonderful spire on Saturday.

“It is Grantham’s finest landmark and there can be no better cause.”

The event will be held on May 11 and there is still chance to sign up by logging on to www.spirecycle.co.uk

The main route will start from St Wulfram’s at 10am and is around 28 miles long. The route sees riders set off at St Wulfram’s and finish at Belton Garden Centre, passing through Harlaxton, Bottesford, Long Bennington, Marston and Barkston.

There will also be a shorter, 11-mile route beginning at The Wheatsheaf pub in Long Bennington which will start at 12.30pm and also finish at Belton Garden Centre where there will be a tombola, raffle and other stalls.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Grantham while Grantham MP Nick Boles is expected to cycle at least part of the route.

Every person who registers this weekend for the Spire Cycle will receive a free spa guest pass from the Olde Barn Hotel at MArston and 25 per cent off all-pre booked beauty treatments.
