Candidates standing in the local elections on Thursday are pleading their case, hoping to win your votes.

Each hopeful has submitted up to 150 words about themselves, their approaches and what they believe to be priorities in both the electoral divisions in which they stand and the county as a whole.

One county councillor will be elected for each division, and will serve a four-year term.

Voters will be heading to their nearest polling stations on Thursday between 7am and 10pm, to elect their candidates.

Poll cards have been sent to all registered electors eligible to vote. If you are not registered, it is too late to do so as the deadline for applications was April 17.

* Adam Stokes - Conservative

Adam writes: “I moved to Grantham in 1990 and currently live within the division.

“I attended Grantham schools and attained a degree at the University of Lincoln in accountancy. I am a director in the family bookkeeping business, while also being the treasurer of Notts County Supporters Club and Grantham Museum.

“During the last four years I have served on Lincolnshire County Council where I was made vice chairman of the audit committee and also appointed a governor of Huntingtower Community Primary School.

“I was elected in 2011 to serve on South Kesteven District Council.

“My priorities are to keep council tax low, push for an early start to the now funded bypass, create a residents’ parking scheme for the town centre and to continue to provide the town with a strong voice at the county council.”

* Charmaine Morgan - Labour

Charmaine writes: “I am delighted to be standing as Labour’s county candidate for Grantham South, where I am privileged to represent St Anne’s ward residents as a district councillor.

“I have a track record of listening to local people and standing up for them. I will continue fighting for our hospital as SOS Grantham Hospital chair.

“Decisions made in Lincoln affect us all. Strong local voices are needed there.

“I share our county Labour Group belief that we need to work together for a better future. We will revitalise our local economy. We will provide work and training opportunities for our young people; improved bus services; reduced speed limits, and the protection and restoration of key public services. Inequality and low pay are unjust. We will tackle these where we can.”

* Murray Turner - Liberal Democrat

Murray writes: “I was born in St Albans in Hertfordshire in 1964. I moved to Lincolnshire nine years ago. My wife Samantha and I run a Telecoms business called STT which is based in Billingborough.

“I take a keen interest in local sport and the good it can do for local communities. I sponsor and play (occasionally) for Billingborough Cricket Club. I am on the committee of Pointon football club as well as being manager of the under 18s and the third team.

“I have always taken a keen interest in politics, standing for election many times. I believe in a taxation system that recognises the effort of hard working people first whilst caring for those not so well off in society at the same time.”
