How delighted I was to read Linda Neal’s forecast that our SKDC portion of council tax was to stay the same as last year.
How deflated I was to read on into The Journal only to discover that her message wasn’t quite the whole truth – our previously free green bin service is now to cost us £25 per annum!
This barely hidden rise will raise tens of thousands of pounds for council coffers, and those who won’t or can’t pay it will have to dispose of their waste in other ways.
What about those who don’t have a car? This rise in costs will be forced upon them whether they like it or not. Those on frozen salaries or fixed incomes will be wondering what state of reality our councillors exist in – it’s certainly not the same one as the rest of us!
