Members of Grantham’s Inner Wheel club have continued their 50th anniversary celebrations with the donation of a magnolia tree to Wyndham Park.
President Margaret Wuidart was joined by founder member Janet Todd and over a dozen group members to plant the tree on April 19 to commemorate all their present and past members.
They will now help maintain the tree and the area around it adjacent to the white bridge in the park with members of Wyndham Park forum and South Kesteven District Council.
Margaret said: “We’re pleased to donate this tree to Wyndham Park and hope to see it bloom in the years to come. We do a lot of work in the community and this seemed a natural choice as one of our decisions to mark our 50th year celebrations.”
Wyndham Park forum member Elizabeth Bowskill welcomed the Inner Wheel’s donation. She said: “We are delighted that the Inner Wheel have adopted the floral feature by the white bridge and look forward to working with them to develop their planting scheme.
“One of our aims is to increase the wider community involvement in the future plans for Wyndham Park.”
Leader of SKDC Cllr Linda Neal said: “It’s great when community groups contribute their time, effort and enthusiasm to make our parks more attractive. The donation of the tree is very much appreciated and I am sure members of the group will enjoy taking pride in the area whilst helping us achieve one of our priorities to keep South Kesteven clean, green and healthy.”
