Harrowby United 3
Harrowby’s final away fixture of the season proved fruitful as they returned home with the three points against the side immediately below them in the league.
The Arrows made the perfect start with a goal inside the first minute. Sam Kirton’s corner found Martin Wormall with time and space to control the ball on his chest and smash home through a crowd of players from eight yards out.
The lead was almost doubled after only three minutes when Harrowby’s man of the match Lee Shaw closed down Bugbrooke keeper Ronan Antonio. His rushed clearance fell for Wormall but his curling right foot effort was just within Antonio’s reach.
Luke Peberdy set up a shooting chance for Sam Hill after 19 minutes but his effort was just too high. Another corner after 33 minutes again was not dealt with by the Badgers’ defence and Wormall’s goa bound shot was blocked inside the six yard box as Harrowby continued to dominate the first half.
Five minutes before the break, a cross into the box was flicked on by Wormall’s well timed jump to Peberdy who just lifted his shot over the bar.
The last chance of an entertaining opening half came from a great move down the right flank involving Hill and Peberdy which resulted in the latter’s cross being taken off Jamie Preston’s foot with a last gasp tackle when he looked certain to score.
A rare attack from the home side brought a good save from Arrows’ keeper Jack Drury, who dived to his right to push away a shot from Will Briscoe.
Harrowby went two up after 54 minutes when a clever through-ball from Shaw found Peberdy on the right. He squared for Preston to knock home his first goal for the Arrows.
The pace of the game slowed in the final quarter on a warm afternoon but Harrowby put the game beyond doubt after 78 minutes when a pass from Shaw found Wormall out on the right. The Harrowby top scorer cut inside on to his left foot and curled a delightful shot into the bottom corner of the net.
