I am absolutely incensed about SKDC’s plans to introduce a £25 charge for emptying green bins.
I applaud them for trying to keep council tax charges down, but I think this is grossly unfair.
Their argument is that this is an optional service and needs to be paid for by those that use it.
I would agree with that, if we weren’t already paying for it.
The vast majority of users of this service will be living in larger houses where there is a demand for green bins with larger gardens.
This is reflected in their current council tax by the banding system - with those folks living in larger properties paying significantly more than those living in terraced houses, for example.
This is effectively charging certain households twice for a service for which others pay only once.
