Wootton Blue Cross 2
Harrowby United 2
The spoils were shared on Harrowby’s trip to Bedford on Saturday and just three minutes into the game, the Arrows’ top scorer Martin Wormall had a free header at the far post from a corner kick, but failed to hit the target.
But he made amends three minutes later when a back-heel from Daniel Reidy allowed man-of-the-match Bobby Lee time to pick him out on the back post and finish clinically.
After 11 minutes, a last ditch tackle from Sam Hill denied the hosts an equaliser as Wootton started to dominate. The home side went close again after 20 minutes when Sean McFarland headed just wide. Shortly after, Hill fired a rasping shot just over the Wootton cross bar.
Lee Shaw broke free to create a one-on-one chance but pushed a shot just wide on the half hour mark. Wootton capitalised on the miss and levelled five minutes later. A free kick into the box was flicked on, allowing a simple tap-in for Ryan Smith.
Harrowby regained the lead on 38 minutes through Sam Kirton who turned and fired home from the edge of the penalty area.
Wormall had another chance on the stroke of half time but shot just wide.
Wootton squared things up again six minutes into the second half when a ball into the box was knocked down for Dom Collins to tap in.
The Arrows’ first attack of the second period did not arrive until the 55th minute when Lee shot wide. Three minutes later, a corner was cleared as far as Kirton whose first-time shot was saved by Wootton keeper Chris Woodward.
A tackle in midfield by the tireless Kirton created a one-on-one chance for Wormall but he dragged his shot wide.
The final quarter of the game was dominated by Harrowby but they could not turn the dominance into a winning goal.
