The headteacher of Huntingtower Primary School, where Margaret Thatcher was educated in her early schools years, says her death is “very sad news”.
Mark Anderson, headteacher of Huntingtower Primary School in Grantham, added: “She was a remarkable leader of our country. We regularly remind our students about the fact that a Prime Minister went to this school, that a Prime Minister sat in this school hall and that she set an example which proves what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.”
Baroness Thatcher was born on the corner of North Parade and Broad Street, where her family ran a shop and lived upstairs.
Her father, Alfred Roberts, also had a shop on Huntingtower Road in the town, opposite the Huntingtower Road School that was the young Margaret’s first place of education.
It was her first school apart from Sunday school, for the family’s lives revolved around Methodism.
