Councillor Adam Stokes has told the Journal he thinks Grantham should “embrace” its links with Margaret Thatcher.

The Conservative district councillor spoke to Journal shortly after the news broke of former Prime Minister’s death this afternoon from a stroke, aged 87.

He said: “She’s been ill for a long time so for me it was a matter of time. It’s unfortunate, it’s very sad.”

When asked what he thinks to Grantham people’s perception of the former Prime Minister, he said: “They will react and there’s going to be a mixed reaction. They’ll say Margaret didn’t do a lot for the town but the fact is she was from Grantham and was the first female Prime Minister.”
