Plans are now marching on at quite a pace to ensure that the Gravity Fields Festival in Grantham later this year is a massive hit.
Centred around our most famous son, Sir Isaac Newton, the week-long event in September will be a great celebration, not only for our district - I am sure we will attract people from far and wide.
This will not be just another science and arts festival; this event will give us a chance to look back at our wonderful history and our contribution not only to this country but to the world!
I was at a public information evening when there were demonstrations from the Science Museum. Experts were on hand to talk about gyroscopes and boomerangs and the National Space Centre was also represented.
During the event local people heard how they could become involved in something that has already grabbed the imagination of the National Trust, the King’s School (where Newton was a pupil), Grantham College, the Business Club, St Wulfram’s Church, the Civic Society and the Grantham Journal.
As well as being a great celebration, I believe Gravity Fields will be a springboard for the whole area, help our economic growth and leave a legacy that can be developed for years to come.
The details of exactly what will be included will be available soon and we will be advertising the events widely, so keep watching out for them!
And I’ve got more good news to pass on. You may remember in my last column I said I was secretly hoping that the Council would be able to freeze its council tax charge – well, my dream has come true and that’s exactly what we are planning to do.
We pride ourselves on being a well-run Council and that is why we are going to be able to recommend no increase and still be able to make progress on our priorities that will improve the quality of life for everyone in the district.
