Harrowby United completed a season double over local rivals Bourne Town with a hard fought 2-1 victory at Dickens Road on Easter Monday.

Harrowby dominated the opening quarter of the game and were unlucky not to go ahead after only four minutes when a free kick into the Wakes’ penalty area was met by Sam Hill whose header hit the crossbar.

The Arrows took the lead after 16 minutes when a through-ball from man-of-the-match Craig Wilson found Martin Wormall who took the ball in his stride before delicately chipping over advancing Bourne keeper Alex Brown.

Bourne got themselves back into the game after 32 minutes when a left wing cross into the Arrows area was misjudged in the swirling wind by keeper Jack Drury. His attempted punch dropped only as far as John Currall on the edge of the area, and he fired home with the help of a slight deflection.

Two minutes later, Harrowby were again denied by the woodwork when Wilson fed Wormall whose right-footed shot hit the crossbar.

The second half was an even affair with both teams looking for a winner. Two minutes before the hour, Wakes keeper Brown blocked a Wormall effort on the edge of the box. The rebound fell for Wilson who shot narrowly wide.

Bourne were reduced to 10 men after 64 four minutes when referee Mr Basker showed a straight red card to striker Tom Waumsley for violent conduct.

Drury saved well for Harrowby after 67 minutes and Wilson again went close for the Arrows after a fine run and cross from the left by substitute Lee Shaw created him an opportunity.

Harrowby’s winner came with six minutes remaining when right back Sam Weatherstone advanced down the right flank. He knocked a good ball in to Wilson who controlled before hitting a right foot shot on the turn into the bottom corner of the net.

United nearly increased the margin of victory two minutes from time when Weatherstone’s cross into the box was headed just over by Simon Bolland.

Match ball sponsor was S.A.O Carpentry & Joinery of Grantham.

Harrowby: Drury, Weatherstone, Preston, Hill, Hodgkin (c), Harper {Scott Webb 85}, Kirton, Bolland, Lee {Shaw 63}, Wormall, Wilson. Subs not used: Vorley, Peberdy, Reidy.
