Belton Lane Primary School basketball team are currently on something of a roll.

Coached by headteacher Jonathan Mason, the team has won nine out of its last 10 games in the Nottinghamshire Schools Basketball Programme.

As the newest school to join the programme, Belton Lane won School Team of the Month in February when they won five out of six matches. Victories were 22-10 over Candleby Lane B, 28-10 against Lowdham, 23-10 and 20-17 versus Holy Trinity (Newark), and 28-11 over South Wilford.

Notts programme director Jimmy Smith said: “Belton Lane have just showed sheer determination to be successful.

“They are playing a multi-age group team and always select at least four girls to make up their playing squad, a good example of gender equality. Well done to our newest team.”

The Belton Lane team represented Lincolnshire in a regional basketball tournament in Northampton last Saturday, when they were joined by another promising young Grantham player, Ryan Holboj of Huntingtower Primary School.

A number of the team are hoping to attend a selection day for the East Midlands representative side.
