PUPILS from two local schools have been busy snapping their surroundings as part of a photographic competition, designed to raise their awareness of the wonders of nature.
The students of Harlaxton and Denton primary schools have been encouraged to look at the natural world around them and take a snapshot that demonstrates the beauty of their local environment.
Jacqueline Knight, eco co-ordinator at Harlaxton Primary School, said: “The competition is called ‘Our Beautiful World’ and it aims to raise the children’s awareness of nature and eco-sustainability.”
The competition was launched before Christmas but the final judging took place on Monday and the children are due to find out the results within the next fortnight.
The winner and runners-up will receive prizes donated by ASDA in Grantham.
Rachel Harper, eco co-ordinator and Class 1 teacher at Denton Primary School said that the competition was “a great opportunity for the children to look at the world around them and realise the beauty of nature”.
By encouraging their pupils to focus on their natural surroundings, the staff at Harlaxton and Denton schools are hoping to encourage a sense of awareness and environmental responsibility which will continue to resonate with the children well into the future.
