Grantham Running Club is introducing two new training programmes aimed at beginners.
The club’s “Learn 2 Run” initiative is in line with the NHS’s “Couch to 5km” scheme which is aimed at getting people off the sofa and out running, getting fitter and meeting new people. It lasts for 12 weeks and should guide individuals to be able to complete 5km without stopping.
The other programme is the “12wk 2 10km”, designed for those already jogging who would like to run further in a more structured manner, and meeting up with like-minded people. The course is designed to finish in time for the club’s Summer Solstice 10km race at Long Bennington in June.
Programmes begin this Monday, April 1, and the club recommends a minimum of three training sessions a week, two of which will be under GRC supervision.
Supervised sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at The Meres leisure centre at 6.45pm. The first session this Monday will be predominantly taken up with registration, health and safety and discussions about the two programmes and their suitability.
