A new church is set to open in Grantham later this month.

It will be known as the Earlesfield Community Church and will operate from the community centre on the Earlesfield estate, with the first family service to be held on Easter Sunday, March 31, at 4pm.

The church is being run by a team of five people, who have been active in the community over the past three years.

Team leader Daniel Howson said: “We started working here in January 2010, visiting people with a questionnaire about the estate asking them what they thought of it. It has helped us get a handle on what people need.”

The team, some of whom also live on the estate, have been running various children’s holiday clubs at the community centre and the youth centre.

They have also been actively involved in projects to enhance the area, working on a week-long big clean up at Beedon Park last year with a visiting team from Mississippi, litter picking and fixing damaged fencing.

Daniel said: “We have already built up a good partnership with Spitalgate School and run the Earlesfield Explorers after school club on Thursdays. We are also planning to introduce a parent and toddler group and a bible study group.

He added: “We have connections with a lot of organisations and churches and belong to an organisation known as The Faith Mission, who are based in Edinburgh.

“The church is open to everyone, whether religious or not, and we have had a very positive response so far from people locally.
