Ten hardy volunteers gave up their time at the weekend to dredge the River Witham of fly-tipped rubbish.
The Grantham Rivercare volunteers worked their way from Queen Elizabeth Park through to Wyndham Park and collected 16 bags of rubbish in total.
John Knowles of Grantham Rivercare said: “At first glance there did not appear to be a great deal of rubbish, but when we got stuck in we came across rather more than we had anticipated. It is a good time of year to carry out a clean up along the embankment before the spring vegetation appears.”
On top of the 16 bags of rubbish the river cleaners also came across one shopping trolley, two traffic cones and a fire extinguisher.
John said: “Well done all of you who came along and I look forward to seeing more of you next time out.”
