We should all be grateful to Margaret Thatcher

THERE should be a statue to commemorate Margaret Thatcher - but not with the plaque suggested by Mark Rowe.

Frankly, in any other country it would be automatic to have some sort of substantial tribute to a great leader born in a medium-sized town.

I don’t know if Mr Rowe was around in the early 70s, but I was and I remember the 3-day week, struggling to do my homework by candle-light whilst the unions held the country to ransom.

The final straw was a Labour Prime Minister saying “crisis, what crisis?” during the winter of discontent as he jetted off to a conference somewhere hot.

Margaret Thatcher saved the country from that, and we should all be eternally grateful.
