Dentist turned musician Geoff Braunton had never played a musical instrument in his life until the age of 63 but is now the bass player in popular Grantham band The Premier Cru.
Mr Braunton came to Grantham in 1965, joining Mr Miller at his practice near St Wulfram’s church before setting up the Maltings Dental Practice in Commercial Road.
He said: “I have a great pride when I see how well it is doing today. It is even better now than it was when I was there.”
Mr Braunton took up playing the bass in 2003 when a group of Rotarians decided to start their own group. He was told “buy yourself an electric bass and you’re in the band”. He said: “It was hard work to begin with, particularly being left-handed but it keeps the old grey matter turning over”.
Mr Braunton was president of the Rotary Club of Grantham when the first Rotary Swimarathon was held 24 years ago. He said: “It was nice to see such a successful event established which continues to get stronger and stronger.”
