Grantham schools among country’s best - but Charles Read in Corby Glen is among the worst

King’s School, Grantham, is among the top 200 best achievers in GCSE exams in England, according to secondary school league tables published yesterday.

At the King’s School, 99 per cent of pupils attained at least five A*-C grades at GCSE level.

Charles Read Academy, in Corby Glen, was among the 200 worst schools in the country with just 38 per cent of pupils achieving five A*-C grades at GCSE level.

King’s was also among the top 200 highest achieving schools at A/AS level, as was Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School.

KGGS headteacher Graham Burks said he was delighted with the results, especially the school’s value added measure of 1,023.

He said: “I think the key thing is our value added measure. That’s the marker in the sand. If you are getting above 1,000 you are doing well. The girls have done really well this year. That’s a super result.”

The school’s value added measure is the fourth best in the county. These scores are seen as a fairer way of looking at school exam results as they look at how schools have improved over a period of time rather than simply comparing different schools with each other.
