Grantham Town have announced the departure of captain and striker Ben Saunders.
Saunders has gone to lower league Stamford who according to Town joint boss Gary Sucharewycz made “an unbelievable offer”.
Saunders has been with the Gingerbreads for three seasons, scoring 49 times in his 155 appearances, and guided his side to the Northern Premier League Division One South title and promotion in 2012.
Sucharewycz said: “Ben has been a great player for the team since we joined and we wish him well.
“He will probably be the top paid player at Stamford and possibly the top paid striker in that league.
“They have also guaranteed his money which is something we couldn’t do.”
