A man who refused to take a breath test at Grantham police station has been disqualified from driving for 16 months.
Michael Spicer of Sleaford Road, Tattershall had been celebrating his new job at a works Christmas do and intended to stay over at a hotel. However, he got involved in an argument and decided to get behind the wheel.
Julian Sheen, defending, said: “He believes the people at the venue notified the police and he was stopped just after he left.
“No doubt they were concerned about the safety of Mr Spicer and other road users.”
Mr Sheen said Spicer could not explain his refusal to take the test at the station.
He added: “He only puts it down to the fact he had too much to drink and his judgement was considerably impaired.
“He very much regrets that decision.”
Spicer, 29, was disqualified from driving for a total of 16 months and ordered to pay a fine of £280. He must also pay a surcharge of £28 and costs of £85.
Chair of magistrates Greg Cejer said: “We are hoping and are sure you will not do something silly again.
“It’s a costly exercise, isn’t it Mr Spicer?”
