Grantham Town joint manager Gary Sucharewycz says their New Year’s Day victory has put the Gingerbreads back in the groove.

Grantham defeated Eastwood Town 4-0 in their biggest win of the season at The Meres and Sucharewycz said it was just deserts for his and Ian Robinson’s team’s efforts of late.

Sucharewycz said: “The most pleasing thing is that it is good for the lads to have got the win. They got what we have deserved over the last couple of games.

“It helps to get the feelgood factor back into the team and club, and puts smiles on faces. It gives a lift to everyone.”

There have been some comings and goings at The Meres recently as the managerial duo try to establish a settled team.

Keeper Jimmy Lindley has left, replaced by the popular James Martin who had an exemplary game on Tuesday. Also departed are fans’ favourites Lee Potts and Phil Watt, but Sucharewycz and Robinson are hoping their replacements will shore up the side.

Tommy Hannigan, Nathan Watson and Alton Rennalls have been drafted in, as has Sam MacVicar who impressed Sucharewycz in his Gingerbreads debut against Eastwood.

Sucharewycz said: “He showed some good strength, holding the ball up well, and some good touches. He works hard and showed a lot of the qualities we signed him for.”

+ Town take on Ashton United at The Meres today (Saturday, January 5), kick-off 3pm.
