A car belonging to the district council received a ticket this afternoon after parking in a loading bay outside the King’s Arms pub in Westgate.

Civil Parking Enforcement Officers were introduced a few weeks ago and have been busy roaming Grantham’s streets looking for drivers infringing the parking restrictions and on this occasion the vehicle belonged to the council and was sporting the SKDC logo under which are the words ‘Your council working for you’.

Shop owner and former policeman Cyril Dryden, whose business is across the road from the parking bay, said: “I think it was very funny that it was a council car. The officers have been very busy up and down here this week.”

Another shop owner witnessed the car get a ticket. She said: “I told him to book it. He said he was phoning his boss to book him. If it had been anybody else he would have booked them straight away. He did it in the end. It was quite hilarious.”

The shop owner said that many drivers did not realise that part of the road was a loading bay because it wasn’t well enough marked and many were being booked. Further down the road are one hour parking parking bays.
