You may wonder why the Journal would print a map of the London Underground but look closely at the stops and you will notice some familiar locations.
This map of the Vale of Belvoir has been drawn up by architect John Fowkes of Long Clawson.
The image, which is available to buy from John or at The Picture Cafe in Bingham, took Mr Fowkes around 40 hours to create.
It features Grantham Canal as its centre and puts major junctions across three counties in Bingham, Elton, Harby and Denton. Smaller touches not immediately obvious include the addition of peak hours only lines, a tractor link in Kinoulton and long lost railway stations and airfields.
This is the fourth such map Mr Fowkes has created, having also made maps of Rutland, the Welland Valley and The Lizard in Cornwall.
He said: “Harry Beck’s map has been copied and modified now worldwide and these pay respect to that idea.
“People buy them because they like to see their village on the map. They are proving to be excellent Christmas presents.
“They make fantastic gifts and are especially popular with men.”
Mr Fowkes said he begins by first pin-pointing the villages and then linking them together with appropriate local lines.
People also have the option of personalising their map when they purchase it so it features their own home, business or any other landmark.
