A sunny day saw some fast racing in the grounds of the Police HQ at Nettleham in the latest round of the Lincs Cyclo-Cross League, promoted by Lincoln Wheelers.
Best Witham Wheelers ride of the day was by Kerrigan Robb. Following on from his fine second the day before in the Notts & Derby League, he finally got the better of Spalding’s Jake Norton to take his first cyclo-cross win by 10 seconds in the under-12 age category. Jessica East also rode well and finished 20th overall.
In the under-16s, Jennifer McAndrew was third girl and 13th overall, a place in front of younger brother Robert, and Eleanor Crawford (23rd).
In the seniors, Sean East is starting to regain some fitness and was best club rider in 45th, with Simon Cocker finishing 53rd and Graham McAndrew 64th.
l Karl Baillie took part in the latest round of the First Division Track League at Manchester Velodrome on Friday.
After last week’s successes he was moved up a group. Unfazed, Karl won the opening elimination race comfortably and triumphed in the scratch race after a lunge towards the line.
In the points race, Karl was two points clear with one sprint to go but finished second after losing the final sprint, although equal on points. In the unknown distance and kilo time trial, Karl misjudged his efforts and finished a very respectable third in both.
l Witham Wheelers’ annual meeting is at Grantham Cricket Club at 7pm.
