Students have picked up trophies for putting their skills into practice in the 2012 Rotary Youth Speaks competition.
The students from the King’s School and Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form were winners of the Grantham heats in the Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven contest at the Ramada Hotel. Teams from both schools qualified for the district semi-finals to be held at Catmose College, Oakham in January.
The winner in the Intermediate Heat was a team from Walton Girls with a talk entitled, ‘Celebrity Scientists’. The Intermediate Best Speaker Award went to Katie Lyle. The runner-up team in the Intermediate Heat, also from Walton Girls, gave a talk entitled, ‘Fashion through the Ages’.
The winner in the Senior Heat was a team from King’s School with a talk entitled, ‘Do we need an Armed Forces’. The Senior Best Speaker Award went to Ben Morrison.
The runner-up in the Senior Heat was a team from the King’s School with a talk entitled, ‘The Morality of Modern Media’.
Grantham Kesteven Rotary Club President Tony Griffin said: ‘The standard of competition was very high and the Judges had a difficult job. I should like to commend all the students for taking part and developing a skill which will be invaluable to them in later life.’
