Foston epee fencer Joshua Myers successfully won the Leicestershire and Rutland County Championship in Leicester last Sunday.

It was the 16-year-old’s first senior title and was achieved in only his second year of full competition.

It rounded off off another really good year, with Josh’s British ranking moving up to 16th in the country for his age group. He has received an offer from British Fencing to attend their AASE training course, which is designed to develop the next elite athletes.

Joshua paid tribute to his coaches, Richard Sharp of Frisby Fencers, and Chris Howser from the newly-formed Oundle, Peterborough and Spalding (OPS) club.

Josh said: “Having Chris as a former British number 1oneand multiple Commonwealth Games fencer now helping me is fantastic. I would love to one day follow in his footsteps and represent my country.”
