Four runners from Grantham Athletic Club took part in this year’s “Original Poppy Run”.

Now in its 10th year, the five mile race route followed a loop round a flat but very exposed route near Boston.

In tremendous form, Arthur Short pipped Ropsley’s Tony Johnson for the prize for first veteran home in a time of 30min 3sec, only dropping below six minute mile pace in the last mile, into a strong headwind.

Next home for GAC was John Ellerby in 36:02, closely followed by John Bainbridge (36:12) who knocked 14 seconds off a personal best set back in 2008. Making up the quartet was Phil Hall who recorded 38:45.

l Heavy rain and cold wind provided tough conditions at the Rutland Water Marathon.

The course followed the perimeter of Rutland Water and included two laps of Hambleton Peninsula.

Grantham Running Club’s Ben Hatherley completed his fourth marathon in six months, coming home in 46th position with a time of 03:43:02.
