A CLARINETTIST with strong Grantham links is next in the Grantham Music Club programme.

Grantham lad Oliver Pashley will return to his hometown to play the clarinet, accompanied on stage by pianist Will Cole.

Oliver said he is over the moon to have been asked to perform by the music club.

He added: “Knowing that the music club has a long tradition of high-standard concerts featuring many well-renowned soloists and ensembles, I’m honoured to have been asked to play.

“I remember some of the most enjoyable concerts that I’ve seen in Grantham being at the music club, so it’s a pleasure to return on the other side of the stage.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the familiar faces of the friends I have here in my hometown in the audience.”

Oliver grew up in Grantham, learning to play the clarinet at eight years old and going on to gain a place in the National Youth Orchestra as principal clarinettist.

After completing his A-level studies at King’s School in Grantham, he went on to study at Clare College in Cambridge, where Will also attends.

As well as twice being musical director for the Grantham Operatic Society, Oliver has also been the group’s rehearsal pianist.

Oliver and Will will take to the stage at Priory Ruskin Academy, Rushcliffe Road, Grantham, on Wednesday. The concert will begin at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 (8) on the door, with students gaining entry for £1. Alternatively, book by calling the Guildhall Arts Centre box office on 01476 406158 or visit www.guildhallartscentre.com
