Keen cyclist Brian Cooke will soon take to the roads of Vietnam to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Brian, from Bingham, will set off on his journey on Friday, November 23, ready to cycle about 1,400 miles through the Asian country, from the capital Hanoi in the north to the city of Ho Chi Minh in the south. The trip will take five weeks.
The car salesman will do the trip on his own. He has travelled the world but has never visited Vietnam before. He said: “It may have been the Top Gear Vietnam special that inspired me. It looked like something interesting to do. Looking at the map, the country is quite thin and the route follows the coast. I am really looking forward to it.”
Brian is hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity he chose because his mother has the disease. He said: “It’s just starting to be recognised as something which is becoming a big problem.”
Brian has been supported by Cyclesport in Grantham which has given him a bike and equipment at cost price. Manager Jeff Moody said: “Brian is a regular customer of ours and a keen cyclist. We are happy to help him and make a donation to his charity.”
To sponsor Brian there are forms at Cyclesport in London Road, and at RP Motorsports in London Road Industrial Estate, Grantham. Or you can visit his donation page at www.justgiving.com/brian-cooke-vietnam. He will also post regular updates about his journey on his page at facebook.com/cooke169
