Grantham Badminton Club second mixed team enjoyed the highs and lows in two Newark League Division Two games.
In the first, Grantham lost 6-3 to a strong Devon team. Jasmine Gilbert (reserve) partnered Nick Gill and won all three of their matches. Sonal Modi (reserve) and Toby Mills and lost all three rubbers, with one going to three games. Laura Graves partnered Jon Ashley, taking two games to three sets, but eventually losing all three rubbers.
However, the seconds were redeemed against an Oxton team who turned up with only two pairs. Sophie Turley with Nick Gill won against both opposition pairs, Laura Graves with Jon Ashley won one rubber and lost one. Adrian Ackroyd with Jo Desorghes lost both rubbers, one going to three games. Three rubbers were conceded by Oxton, making the final score 6-3 to Grantham.
In the Melton Mixed League, Belvoir B only managed a two pair turnout. Ian Witham with Sandra Jennings won both of their rubbers, but Sophie Lamb with Josh King, and Mike Woodhouse with Sarah Bransby, lost both. Three rubbers were conceded in the narrow 5-4 Grantham victory.
Away to Mars B in the Melton Mixed league, Grantham won comfortably 6-3. Josh King with recent new club member Kat Perry had a great night and won all three rubbers. Rob Howbrook with Pat O’Keefe won two, and Sarah Bransby with Ian Witham won one rubber.
Grantham men’s first team beat Lincoln Albion 6-3 away. Ben Johnson with Jan Bailey won three rubbers, Nick Gill with Chris Parrot won two, and Adrian Ackroyd with Martin Chambers won one.
